Natural(ish) beauty

I've always hated been jealous of women with  flawless complexions. They roll out of bed, put on a little mascara and lipstick and bam! They're fabulous. No foundation. No concealer. Nada. They have invisible pores, smooth, even-toned skin, and there's never a zit in sight.

They're living the dream, in my book.

I, my friends, am not one of these bitches women. Without some sort of coverup, my skin is blotchy, bumpy, and I always have at least one pimple. Don't get me wrong -- I know it could be a million times worse and this is definitely a #biancaproblem -- a hashtag Jack coined for all my ridiculous "problems" -- because honestly, all it takes is some concealer, foundation, and powder for me to fake decent (but never flawless!) skin. Yes, I'm my own worst critic and most people (Jack) would say this is all in my head. That no one notices whether I'm wearing foundation or not. While that may be true, it would be nice if I could see it.

So recently I stopped wearing coverup daily. Drastic, I know. While the rest of my makeup routine is the same -- I do love my mascaras, lipsticks, eye shadows, etc. -- the base is just some acne meds and plain moisturizer.

I admit, the first few days were jarring. Every time I looked in the mirror I gasped. But about a week into it, my skin is starting to look better. Maybe I'm just adjusting to my natural ... "beauty" ... but I am definitely no longer frightened by own complexion. It's not good enough for me to post pictures on the internet or good enough for me to stop wearing makeup when I go out/in pictures, but it is good enough for me to not completely hate my skin. And I think that's a pretty good step!

What about you, ladies? Are you a natural gal or do you wear some sort of coverup/foundation daily? Are you blessed with flawless skin? What's your secret -- and please don't say "drink lots of water" (That's not a secret. Who doesn't drink lots of water these days?!)

  1. Bianca, lately I've been having the worst skin problems of my life! I'm mortified! So, I've been trying out some new skincare products from LUSH--their stuff is all natural and so far, I'm really loving it. Plus, I picked up a clairsonic at Sephora a few weeks ago which has been doing a wonder on me. I have very fair skin, so, like you, I notice every little blemish (while my bf just continues to remind me I'm beautiful). You are not alone in your frustrations! Hang in there...I've been drinking a lot of green tea lately which supposedly is great for your skin. I didn't want to suggest drinking more water ;)

    1. hahaha -- I'll definitely try the green tea IN ADDITION to water. Thanks for the tips!! I've wanted to try to clairsonic so I'm glad to hear it works!

  2. I've definitely been trying to wear makeup less, especially on the weekends when I'm not doing a whole lot. But one thing I do swear by is this stuff called Invisible Makeup by Philosophy. It's a primer, but you can just wear it alone and it makes your complexion smooth and pores look smaller. It honestly feels like a thick moisturizer, but it does wonders. Definitely give it a shot when Frugal February is over :)

  3. HA! I am cracking up at your last sentence. I hate when people say "All I do is drink a lot of water." BULLSHIT!
I know you're a newfound frugalista, so you'll probably think the price of this is ridiculous, but I SWEAR by Hope in a Jar by Philosophy. I tried to stop using it once, and I was like, "See? My skin is fine without it" but then I got another jar on a whim and when I started using it again, I couldn't believe how much better it looked and feeled. The stuff is AMAZING!

    1. People swear by that shiz so I've always contemplated getting it! Alex (comment above you) swears by their primer, which apparently has some of that Hope moisturizer in it, so I may be trying this line SUPER soon.

  4. I really like Bare Escentuals. I don't have much of a blemish problem, but whenever I do get a spot (traveling, high stress, etc), I like that Bare Escentuals covers while not clogging my pores. Also, it covers while letting my freckles show through. Do I sound like a commercial?

    1. You're a lucky gal! I used that stuff before and LOVED it but then I ran out ... and just didn't buy more. (I like to try new things, which probably contributes to the problem.)
