Bedazzled cat-eyes

I'm loving summer and I'm no where near ready for fall, HOWEVER, that hasn't stopped me from drooling over the retro-with-a-modern-twist styles in the DSqaured F/W 2012 collection. For several months now, I've been visiting the website regularly to stare at the all the pretty pictures, the big BIG hair, and the amazeballz clothing. It's pretty much my dream closet and I can't stop pinning stuff from the runway and campaign. I'm especially obsessed with the above picture and sunglasses. How amazing?! Cat-eye AND sequins! Must. Have.

My glittering-in-crime friend Jennifer and I checked out the Degas and The Nude exhibit at the the Museum of Fine Arts Saturday. Viewing sketches, paintings, and sculptures of naked men and women requires a classy outfit so naturally I wore my cape. It's one of my favorite pieces of fall clothing -- and it makes me feel chic and polished (even when I'm staring at butts and boobs).

And while the exhibit is phenomenal -- such a unique look of the impressionist's works -- my favorite part of the MFA is (and always will be) the creepy baby heads out back.

I've been wearing a lot of athletic gear lately (pre- and post- marathon water weight will do that do you) so while I work on my marathon mashup post and catch up on insane amounts of "real" work, I'm going to leave you with these gloriously sexy pink booties. Completely unaffordable but if these babies don't inspire me to stop wearing yoga pants 24/7, I don't know what will.

Skullz!

My style really isn't Goth. I'm sure that comes as a surprise to ... well, no one. But lately I've been lusting for skulls. I want to put them on pretty much everything -- including my pets. And with Halloween just around the corner, my obsession couldn't have been timed more perfectly.

1. American Nightmare Platform by Iron Fist ($49.99) Skulls and bows make these crimson shoes totally badass.
2. Purple Skull Ring (About $16) Love the bright purple color and the clearly-defined skull face on this ring.
3. Skull iPad Case by Rebecca Minkoff ($129) Because why not cover your iPad in skulls?(And Rebecca Minkoff?)
4. Lauren G. Adams Mini Skull Bangle ($40 each) Delicate and subtle, these bracelets are appropriate in almost any situation.
5. Sequin Skull and Crossbone Pillow ($28.99) I would have a tough time deciding which room to put this ridiculously shiny pillow in.
6. Small Crystal Skull Stud Earrings by Betsey Johnson ($30) While these bow-wearing skulls are kind of creepy -- check out those faces -- they're still pretty damn awesome.
7. Black and Hot Pink Leather Skull Studded dog collars ($29.99 and $34.99) Little Greg and Peggy Sue are already the most stylish dogs on the block (naturally) but these collars would bring them to a whole new level.
8. Metal Boyfriend Style Watch with Skull Markings (About $37) Not sure if you can see it from this image but instead of numbers, this watch face has silver skulls. Amazing.
9. Skull Beaded Bracelet by Bee Charming ($55 each) These bracelets are so whimsical -- I love how they look stacked together.
10. Skull Hat by Helene Berman (About $78) A glittery skull to keep your, umm, skull warm. (Couldn't resist.)
11. Black Skull Pump by Alexander McQueen ($845) Naturally you can't talk skulls without mentioning Alexander McQueen, and I believe these black pumps are a major cause of my addiction.

Monday mashup: swap swag

Thursday night, my friends and I went to the Boston Fashion Week Sip and Swap hosted by The Swapaholics, and I ended up with some fantastic loot. In addition to three cat-approved shoe finds, I also scored a cheetah print bow blouse; a sheer, lacy Guess tank top; a bedazzled tube top (random but I love it!); no-name skinny jeans; a purple and lime green windbreaker, and a simple black skirt. Not too shabby, right?


As always, the Boston event was well-organized and so much fun. If you've never been to a Swap -- I highly recommend it. It's a great way to clean out your closet, meet new people, and "shop" for clothes and accessories -- all for the price of admission (I've never paid more than $10). Technicolor running sneaks

These psychedelic New Balance 890s are my new running sneaker -- aren't they phenomenal?! I've been in a training rut this week -- dreading each run to the point of tears -- but I think these bright, glittery (yes there's glitter under the turquoise) beauties are exactly what the doctor ordered. I already took them for a spin this morning and I can't wait to further break them in this weekend! (Side note: I ordered them from onlineshoes.com late Tuesday afternoon and got them Thursday -- with free shipping. Highly recommend the site.)

Monday night, Alex and I hit up the Daniel Faucher Couture fashion show at The Tent during Boston Fashion Week. We had a fantastic time drinking wine, critiquing clothes (on and off the runway), and acting like rock stars. Daniel is known for his evening wear and wedding dresses and everything was beautifully crafted and detailed. (You can check out photos from the actual show on Alex's blog since she has a fancy-schmancy camera while I have a point and shoot that makes all the models look slightly deranged.) 

Out of pure coincidence, Alex and I both showed up to the show rocking big buns, which was pretty awesome. It's definitely one of my favorite hairstyles since it's a super easy way to look chic and polished -- and there's little chance of it falling flat (my pet peeve).

Running colors (and prints)

Training for a marathon takes a lot out of you mentally -- long runs are looongg. My trick for pushing through a mental block is to visualize myself crossing the finish line the day of. There are several scenarios that I play over and over again in my head but they all include me wearing a brightly-colored and/or multi-patterned running outfit. While I know from experience when the actual moment comes the last thing I will be thinking about is how pretty or cute I look, I also know having stylish gear the morning of the race will boost my confidence.
